Abstract: Low temperature magnetic properties of (Zn-Sn) substituted barium hexaferrite nano-particles (BaFe12-2x ZnxSnxO19) from 78 to 293 K have been measured to study the substitution effects on their temperature dependence characteristics. It was found that suitable amount of substitution could increase the saturation magnetization Ms, which became obvious only at temperatures lower than 293 K. Different from other types of dopant-combinations, BaFe12-2xZnxSnxO19 particles showed a small positive temperature coefficient of coercivity in this temperature range. This coefficient decreased with the increase of substitution concentration x from about 3.7 Oe/K (x = 0) to 1.9 Oe/K (x = 1.1). The anisotropy constant K1 of these particles increased linearly with the decrease of temperature. © 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
