Abstract: Metal-ceramic interface reactions are vital in the engineering of interfaces of dissimilar materials. The interface reactions of Pd and ZrO2 are studied. The reactions involve the formation, evaporation and decomposition of PdO. After the reactions, an intermetallic phase PdZr2Ox is formed at the interface which provides strong bonding between the Pd and ZrO2.
