Abstract: Instant hydrogelation of coumarin-derivatized glycine has been demonstrated in the absence of long-chain hydrophobic groups upon formation of a zinc(II) coordination polymer, which exhibits fluorescence enhancement upon gelation. © The Royal Society of Chemistry.
