Abstract: A dual rate self-tuning pole-placement controller is proposed in this paper. It allows the use of a large sampling interval for online parameter estimation and a small sampling interval for control. The dual rate system design is fairly simple except for the complexity incurred in converting process parameters from one sampling interval to another, which is presented in detail. The main merits of the dual rate adaptive control system are in reduction of computation load, improved obustness of parameter estimation and improved performance in the regulation of load disturbances. Its performance is substantiated by simulation.
