Abstract: The aim of this article is to review the working principles of infra-red (IR) detectors based on pyroelectric materials and current status of the research on dielectric bolometers, especially the pyroelectric thin films. The article also present applications of IR detectors made of pyroelectric materials. Detailed discussion is focused mainly on the recent developments in pyroelectric materials including ceramics, thick films, and thin films. © 2011 American Scientific Publishers.
