Abstract: The performance of the models are studied by comparison with results of a related theoretical problem, a dynamic impact test and a case study of a dynamic compaction project. The wave equation model which accounts for the punch-through failure mechanism in the soil and the dynamic interaction between the pounder and the soil appears to be most promising for the prediction of field events in dynamic compaction. -from Authors
