Abstract: Under gravity loading, I-beams curved in plan are subject to torsional moments in addition to flexural moments, which tend to distort and twist the beam cross section causing shear and warping stresses. The inelastic behavior of such beams laterally strained at the point of loading is investigated, using the finite element software, ABAQUS, for the ultimate load case. The load displacement and ultimate strengths generated by ABAQUS are compared with experimental tests results. Generally good agreement is observed.
