Abstract: The design, implementation and experimental results of a proposed new instantaneous torque control scheme for the inner loop of a brushless D.C. drive are presented in this paper. The control scheme uses a variable structure strategy and is implemented using a high-performance digital signal processing chip, the AT&T DSP32. The experimental results show that the instantaneous torque control has successfully minimized torque pulsations leading to improved performance in speed, position and static force/torque control applications. © 1991.
