Abstract: Electrical trees have been generated through modeling in a homogeneous insulation structure. The influence of space charge on the structure of the simulated tree patterns are characterized by using fractal dimension. No characteristic change in the shape of the tree has been noticed, if only homocharges were present in the insulation structure. The existence of heterocharges has been observed to affect the shape and size of the different trees obtained under positive and negative DC voltages. The rate of tree propagation and a fractal dimension of the electrical trees exhibited an inverse relationship. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
