Abstract: This paper studies the effectiveness of various measures to minimize and prevent the wastage of steel reinforcement bars, concrete, bricks and tiles. Several methods to reduce the wastage level of these materials were identified. A survey was conducted to gauge whether contractors felt that these methods were effective. Data were collected via standard questionnaire. It was found that the most effective methods to reduce wastage of steel reinforcement bars, concrete, bricks and tiles are 'Use of prefabricated reinforcement', 'Improving concreting practice', 'Proper transportation and handling of bricks', and 'Improving site storage of tiles' respectively.
