Abstract: With the increase in technological advancements, the adoption of Smart FM technologies in student hostels should be considered. There has also been a lack of studies on the adoption of Smart FM in student hostels since it is quite a niche market in Singapore. Through this research, it seeks to understand facilities managers’ perspectives on the implementation of Smart FM technologies at student hostels, identify factors supporting as well as barriers preventing the adoption of Smart technology at the student hostel and make recommendations to address challenges and encourage the adoption of Smart FM technologies. Data collection was done via qualitative research because of the small number of student hostels in Singapore and this allows for deeper insights to be shared by the facilities managers interviewed. Analysis was done to show the views and considerations of the facilities managers when adopting Smart FM technologies at their hostels, there was also building data and a feasibility study which further elaborated and gave reasons why Smart technologies would be beneficial in a student hostel. Recommendations were given on how to encourage the adoption of Smart FM technologies based on the insights shared such as increased government support, exposure to Smart FM technologies and trainings for staff.
