Abstract: The telescope-in-a-box is a small objective ultralight Dobsonian telescope concept that will be accompanied by telescope instrumentation lesson plans. This provides a rich set of opportunities for teaching astronomy, physics and engineering. Our first two prototypes demonstrate that it can be constructed at low cost, while many of the design decisions can lead to lesson plans in telescope instrumentation.
