Abstract
Adsorptive ethylene/ethane separation based on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has been identified as promising alternatives or complements of energy-intensive cryogenic distillation. Challenges in this field include the high synthetic cost of the MOFs, limited MOF design strategies, and the lack of chemical engineering insights in the evaluation of MOFs’ performance. This PhD project aims to address these issues and tries to bridge the gap between MOFs and chemical engineering evaluation. All selected MOFs are ready for mass production. The presented quantitative analysis of gas separation performance can be applied to evaluate other promising MOFs in the future and push them toward practical applications.
