Abstract: There is a need to examine the demand for high-rise food factory space among the food and beverage industry. This issue is particularly critical given the scarcity of land in Singapore and the increasing growth in demand for food production space. In a recent URA-JTC joint study, it was revealed that the F & B industry is growing at a rate of 2.6% p a. and the industry is projected to grow at a rate of 2.7 % over the period 1995-2000. In 1994, factory space occupied by the F & B industry are 853,000 sq m (net floor area). By year 2000, the demand is expected to increase by 61,000 sq m of net floor area to 913,000 sq m, reflecting an increase of 10,000 sq m per annum. As such the dissertation seeks to determine the user requirements of high-rise food factories and also to determine the demand for high rise food factory space.
