Abstract: © 2017 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd. The latent heat energy storage performance of Tetradecane is measured experimentally. A simple theoretical model is developed by incorporating an effective thermal conductivity that accounts for the effects of the natural convection current of liquid Tetradecane. The simulation results showed good agreement with the experimental data with the maximum discrepancy of about 5.4%. The effects of the coolant inlet temperatures and flow rates on the local solidification rate of Tetradecane are studied. The theoretical model can be used conveniently for the design of the latent heat energy storage systems, especially for air conditioning applications.
