Abstract
The ageing of the populations is largely a phenomenon of the twentieth century, and has become an important area of study. Today, much has been written about the effects of ageing, both on the individual and on the society. However, in this exercise, we will be mainly focusing on one of the important consequences of a'greying' population; that is, an ageing and shrinking workforce. In the context of being resource deprived, labour has come to be regarded as the only natural resources available in the overall development process of the city-state. Today, with older workers having an increasingly significant role to play in the future, the concern of this thesis is to provide a deeper understanding of this group of workers. A survey of Singapore labour force in the context of a maturing or ageing labour force is thus relevant for future policy prescriptions.
