Abstract
An improved teletext receiver system using an equalizer, soft decision decoding and data redundancy of the teletext data has been designed. Initially, the effects of Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) and multipath propagation on the teletext reception is examined. A Finite Impulse Response filter has been designed to act as a teletext equalizer in the front end of the receiver system. Decoding schemes for the filtered data using soft decision decoding with parity correction and data redundancy of teletext data to improve teletext reception have been designed and tested. Experiments have been conducted to evaluate the Bit Error Rate performance of the improved teletext receiver system in imperfect channels. It is found that the system's error rate is much better than that of systems using conventional hard decision decoding in channels with AWGN and multipath propagation.
