POST-FEMINISM IN SOUTH KOREAN DRAMA: MY ID IS GANGNAM BEAUTY

Abstract

South Korea has been facing persistent gender inequality and women-related social problems such as misogyny and sexism. In the meantime, women are portrayed, and thought to be, autonomous and free from structural inequalities, which are important and main tenants of what Gill (2007) defines as the post-feminism sensibility. Hence, the main question is: to what extent, and how, has Korea fulfilled this sensibility? Using the well-received drama "My ID Is Gangnam Beauty" as a window to gender relations in Korea, this thesis hopes to analyse how the post-feminism sensibility is represented in Korean dramas.
