Abstract: Posterior capsule rupture remains an important intrasurgical complication with considerable controversy regarding its management. Some surgeons still recommend anterior vitrectomy routinely. Others will not insert a posterior chamber implant. And most are worried about the poor visual result. In this paper, based on an analysis of 62 eyes, we illustrate how we manage the problem: anterior vitrectomy was usually not required; a posterior chamber lens implant is almost always inserted and the visual result of 6/12 vision and better was found in 86% of afflicted eyes. The importance of prevention is emphasized and the significance of good management is also discussed.
