Abstract: In this paper five heuristic models for the estimation of the maximum power output of photovoltaic (PV) modules with different numbers of parameters (one/two/three/four) using irradiance and PV module temperature as inputs are presented. To validate the performance of the presented models, logged data of mono-crystalline and HIT modules from high-precision outdoor module performance testing in Singapore are used. Results show that the one- And two-parameter models have disadvantages at low irradiances. Two different types of three-parameter models show as good results as the four-parameter model and hence seem to be a good compromise between model complexity and accuracy. © 2012 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
