Abstract: With directional transmission, 60 GHz wireless personal area networks (WPAN) are capable of providing larger spatial reuse ratio as compared to omni-directional networks. In this work, a device cooperation scheme is proposed to improve throughput of the 60 GHz WPAN that employs spatial reuse. The throughput maximization is formulated as a linear programming problem and an optimal solution is provided. WPAN performance with and without device cooperation is studied via simulations. The results demonstrate that device cooperation provides significant throughput improvement as compared to non-cooperative transmission. © 2014 IEEE.
