Abstract: Polyaniline and poly(3-alkylthiophene) films are susceptible to near-UV-light-induced graft copolymerization with hydrophilic functional polymers. The density of grafting is enhanced by Ar plasma or O3 pretreatment. The structures of the grafted surfaces in the two families of polymers differ. Nevertheless, the surface/interface grafts enable the further functionalization of the electroactive polymer surfaces, such as self-doping and enzyme/protein immobilization via covalent bonding. © 1993.
