Abstract: Exogenous applications of abscisic acid (ABA) and benzyladenine (BA) to mature fronds of the constitutive CAM fern, Pyrrosia piloselloides (L.) Price, elicited responses similar to drought stress, resulting in reduction of the CAM capacity of mature fronds. Re-watering of these fronds increased their CAM performance. Hence both ABA and BA could substitute for drought in the reduction of nocturnal CO2 fixation.
