Issue Date: | 20-Apr-1986 | Citation: | Lockwood, D.J., Ohno, N., Kuok, M.H., Arend, H. (1986-04-20). Raman study of the soft mode in ferroelectric PbDPO 4. Journal of Physics C: Solid State Physics 19 (11) : L233-L237. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | The low-frequency Raman spectrum of PbDPO 4 has been studied as a function of temperature between 10 and 484K (T C ≃450K). A soft mode was observed whose frequency exhibits a weak temperature dependence (from 79.5 cm -1 at 10K to about 67 cm -1 at TC). Comparison with results from earlier measurements of the equivalent mode in PbHPO 4 shows that it cannot be the tunnelling mode predicted by theory. The authors conclude that the soft mode does not drive the ferroelectric transition in either PbHPO 4 or PbDPO 4. © 1986 The Institute of Physics. | Source Title: | Journal of Physics C: Solid State Physics | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/97747 | ISSN: | 00223719 |
