Abstract: The kinetic roughening of crystal surfaces due to the occurance of foreign particles during crystal growth was investigated. The growth of napthalene crystals was analyzed to examine pattern transformation and to measure growth rate of the crystals. It was found that particle-induced kinetic roughening was due to the interaction between crystal steps and edge of solid particles which lowered two-dimensional nucleation barrier and suppresed the critical supercooling required for kinetic roughening.
