dc.description.abstractac susceptibility of ideal type-II superconductors without vortex pinning is derived for finite thickness samples. The irreversible properties of the superconductors is due to a macroscopic geometric barrier for flux penetration. The ac susceptibility of the sample with geometric barrier shows many features different from that of the sample which is dominated by bulk pinning. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
