Abstract: Cu-Mn/SiO2 impregnation catalysts were studied with respect to their catalytic activity in the synthesis of methanol. Moreover, the means of XPS, Auger, TPR and decomposition of N2O were also used to characterize the catalysts. The experimental results show that Cu(O) mostly existed on the working surface of the catalysts. The catalytic reaction was promoted by Cu with part of positive charges which was formed by means of long path exchange function between Cu⋯O-Mn. Therefore, this was favourable for adsorbing and activating CO and H2 on the surface of catalysts and for promoting methanol synthesis.
