Abstract: A Monte Carlo study was carried out on AuCu3(100) surface. It was found that the surface layers, unlike the bulk ones, undergo a continuous phase transition in Au concentration. Due to size mismatch between Au and Cu atoms, the temperature range of Au segregation can extend a few hundred degrees above the order- disorder transition temperature. This is in agreement with data obtained from low energy ion scattering (LEIS) and photoelectron diffraction (PHD). © 1994.
