Abstract: A simple method to investigate the electronic structures of solid catalysts by means of UV absorption is described. This method makes use of a suspension prepared by mixing the solid catalyst with an inert liquid paraffin or water, or even with the reactant liquid. In the latter case, an in situ UV absorption characterization of the interaction between catalyst and reactant is possible. The interaction of the framework titanium ions in titanium silicalite-1 (TS-1) zeolite with H2O2 is investigated.
