dc.description.abstractThis paper describes a centrifuge model study on spudcan-pile interaction. Apart from the bending moment and axial force captured along the instrumented piles during spudcan penetration in soft clay, this paper specifically investigates the developments of soil stresses along piles, in order to enhance the understanding of the spudcan-pile interaction mechanism. To measure the radial soil stresses and pore water pressures along the piles, both total stress transducers and pore pressure transducers were attached to the model pile shafts, respectively. The measured radial soil stresses induced on the piles match well with those derived from pile bending moment profiles. © 2010 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
