Issue Date: | 2006 | Citation: | Pandey, K.K.M., Chen, J.S., Chow, G.M. (2006). Compositional dependence of magnetic properties of Co-Pt thin films. Journal of Applied Physics 100 (5) : -. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. https://doi.org/10.1063/1.2336491 | Abstract: | The effects of Pt concentrations on the magnetic properties of Co 100-xPtx (0 ≤ x at. % ≤ 43) films deposited on Ru underlayer were investigated. The Co72Pt28 film sputter deposited at room temperature showed out-of-plane coercivity of 5.5 kOe, unit remanent squareness (Mr/Ms= 1), and uniaxial magnetic anisotropy constant (Ku) of 5.5 × 106 ergs/cc. The properties were attributed to the expansion of Co lattice due to Pt addition. The Pt reduced the interfacial lattice mismatch between Ru underlayer and magnetic layer. This in turn minimized the strain in Co-Pt films and induced the preferred growth of Co-Pt (0002) on Ru (0002). The Co72Pt 28 film also showed the highest thermal stability factor. © 2006 American Institute of Physics. | Source Title: | Journal of Applied Physics | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/86224 | ISSN: | 00218979 | DOI: | 10.1063/1.2336491 |
