Abstract: This paper presents a one-pin crystal oscillator realized in a standard 0.35-μm CMOS technology. Based on a three point oscillator topology, the single one-pin crystal oscillator core circuit is designed to operate over a supply voltage range of 1.62V to 3.63V, a temperature range from -10°C to 60°C in both fundamental and overtone modes. It allows a wide range of oscillation frequencies from 32kHz (fundamental) to 50MHz (3 rd overtone). The current consumption of the oscillator core is 102.1μA at 32kHz and 8.421mA at 30MHz. It produces both a sinusoidal and a square wave output. The overall oscillator circuit is able to drive a large output load which is the combination of 12pF capacitance and 1MΩ resistance. Performance of the crystal oscillator in corner simulations is also observed. © 2008 IEEE.
