Abstract: The authors study the performance of a two-connected multiple-token multiple-ring network in which each node has only two transceivers and two medium access control entities. They show that such a network is suitable for an environment in which the traffic patterns are clustered. An approximate analysis of the average transfer delay performance for the network is presented, the results of which are verified by computer simulation. It is shown that for random traffic the delay performance for intracluster traffic is much better than that of a multiple-token double-ring network. For clustered traffic, the performance of this network is better than that of the multiple-token double-ring network for all cases.
