Abstract: Microbial transformation of the sesquiterpenoid (-)-maalioxide by the fungus Mucor plumbeus gave three metabolites, 9β-hydroxymaalioxide, 1β-hydroxymaalioxide and 7β-hydroxymaalioxide. 9β- Hydroxymaalioxide and its structure was established on the basis of its spectroscopic properties and chemical reactions. © 2005 Elsevier Ltd.
