Abstract: The molecular and electronic structure of tri-, tetra-, and pentaiodobenzenes were investigated by HeI/HeII photoelectron spectroscopy. The effect of the increasing number of iodine substitutents on the aromatic ring was analyzed. The relative influence of chlorine vs iodine on the aromatic ring was investigated by comparing chloro and iodobenzene analogues. Results showed that the iodobenzene molecules embodied subtle and complicated intramolecular orbital interactions.
