Abstract: The electronic structure of galvinoxyl free radical was investigated by HeI photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS), DFT calculations and comparison with the spectra of related compounds. The electronic structure of the radical is similar to p-benzoquinone rather than to nitroxide radicals. The relationship between electronic structure and magnetic properties is discussed. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
