Title: | Analytical DTA study of some binary phenol systems | Authors: | Hill, J.O. Buckman, N.G. Magee, R.J. |
Issue Date: | Jul-1993 | Citation: | Hill, J.O.,Buckman, N.G.,Magee, R.J. (1993-07). Analytical DTA study of some binary phenol systems. Journal of thermal analysis 39 (7) : 795-801. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | A comprehensive DTA study of some 40 different binary phenol systems involving the 'in situ' formation of the p-nitrobenzoylchloride, p-phenylazobenzoylchloride or 3,5-dinitrobenzoylchloride derivatives, has revealed that for most of these systems, well-resolved endotherms appear in the DTA profiles corresponding to the melting points of the constituent phenols and of the respective derivatives. Thus this procedure is of sufficient versatility for the identification of phenols in a binary mixtures. The general method involves adding the chosen acid chloride to the solid-state binary phenol mixture and obtaining the corresponding DTA profile, which is subsequently compared with those in a bank for phenols, binary phenol mixtures and binary phenol derivative mixtures. The method offers rapid identification of phenols in the solid state. | Source Title: | Journal of thermal analysis | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/75578 | ISSN: | 03684466 |
