Abstract: Multi-wall carbon nanotubes were intercalated by bromine. The brominated carbon nanotubes were investigated using high resolution transmission electron microscopy. The accumulation of bromine on carbon nanotubes shows an unusual ordered accumulation along the direction perpendicular to the carbon nanotube's surface. As a result, the area on which bromine accumulates was more readily oxidized compared to normal carbon nanotubes. © 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
