Abstract: In this paper, the transmittance values of solar radiation in solar ponds have been investigated in detail. It is seen that the quality and clarity of water affect transmission properties and the efficiency of the pond. From the analytical and measured data, it is seen that a single profile of transmittance is unlikely to be applicable for different quality and clarity of salt solution in solar ponds. In order to include the effect of transmittance in the simulation and design of a solar pond, an empirical equation has been proposed. This equation has been developed by considering the analytical and measured data for transmittance values as a function of depth.
