dc.description.abstract | The paper investigates the flow patterns and pressure drop of a single component two-phase mixture in an adiabatic, 5 m and horizontal test section of 25 mm i. d. The pressure of the working fluid (Feron-113) is slightly above atmospheric because of the glass test-rig. Four of the most common flow patterns found in the horizontal pipe configuration are studied, viz. the wavy, the slug, the semi slug, and plug flow, and their behaviour is compared with the classical flow pattern maps of Bell, Scott and Sakaguchi. The test section is designed to handle mass velocities up to 1350 kg/m**2s. The pressure drop characteristics along the test section is compared with some of the well-known correlations such as the homogeneous, the Chisholm-Baroczy, the Lockhart-Martinelli and the Friedel models. The Friedel correlation is found to give the best prediction, within plus or minus 20%, for the range of conditions investigated. | |
