Use as columns of rectangular or square hollow sections with high-strength concrete in-fill is increasing in high-rise constructions because of their inherent loadcarrying qualities. The analysis of such columns is complex and the present codes do not provide sufficient information and guidelines for the designers. The present paper is concerned with an analytical method to predict the elastic and ultimate load behaviour of composite columns consisting of square or rectangular tubes with concrete in-fill. The description of the proposed analytical method is presented in the paper. Analytical results are compared with the corresponding experimental results to establish the accuracy of the proposed method. Copyright 2004 ASCE.
