Abstract: The vibration characteristics of 3.5 and 2.5 inch disks, mounted on ball bearing spindle and fluid bearing spindle were experimentally investigated and compared. No obvious 'static rocking mode' was observed for the disks mounted on fluid bearing motor. It was found that the 'half-frequency' whirl of the fluid bearing spindle motor existed but the amplitude was very small.
