dc.description.abstract | PALSS (performance assessment of lightning shielding systems), a computer program for the evaluation of the performance of overhead lightning shielding systems, is discussed. The program is written in C-language and is enhanced with illustrative graphics. The analytical method used by the program is based on a three-dimensional implementation of the electrogeometric model of the lightning stroke, shielding system configuration, and structures that are to be protected. A Monte Carlo technique is used to manipulate the statistical distributions of the lightning stroke parameters to yield a quantitative assessment. Examples of the use of PALSS in studies on a substation and a commercial building complex are presented. | |
