Abstract: In this paper, we propose two novel techniques for designing finite impulse response (FIR) Nyquist filters with zero intersymbol interference, good robustness to timing jitter and satisfactory stop-band performance. The first technique is a special kind of windowing method. The second technique is a minimax method resulting in equiripple FIR Nyquist filters which can be optimally partitioned into a matched transmit and receive filter pair. Examples show superior performance of the proposed pulse shapes compared to the existing techniques.
