Abstract: The paper presents a new approach for monitoring power quality problems in power supply networks. The method consists of passing the distorted voltage signal through a IIR notch filter-linear combiner combination and tuning the parameters of the hybrid filter recursively. The notch filter extracts the frequency of the fundamental component of the signal, which is then used to form an input vector comprising sine and cosine terms for the linear combiner. The approach therefore does not assume the frequency of the fundamental component apriori and hence can be used to estimate the phasor components accurately in the presence of random noise and distortions. Detailed simulation results are presented to validate the effectiveness of this new approach.
