Abstract: In this paper, a novel high performance robust sensorless speed controller for switched reluctance (SR) motors is proposed. The contribution of this work is the novel combination of an advanced nonlinear observer with a robust adaptive fuzzy controller to provide a robust sensorless system. The observer can estimate position and speed with high resolution in the whole speed range. The stability of the observer based controller is shown using Lyapunov techniques. Results are illustrated to show very good dynamic performance for a wide range of operation conditions including model parameter variations and measurement noise.
