dc.description.abstract | This paper describes a task rostering problem involving the assignment of personnel and equipment resources and explains how it can be formulated as a mixed-integer programming model. The proposed formulation is able to handle some of the personnel and equipment constraints effectively by performing suitable computational preprocessing procedures, and hence eliminating the need to include many complex constraints explicitly in the optimization model. This in turn leads to a reduction of the computing work involved to solve the model and computational results show that test instances of modest size can be solved by this approach. | |
