The time stepping finite element analysis for the dynamic performance of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) was discussed. It was found that two dimensional FEM models combined with equivalent circuits were used in computation for good compromise between computing time and accuracy of results. The parameters of end effects due to stator winding and rotor end rings were also obtained.
