The fringing field of the write element of the merged magnetoresistive head is minimized while restraining its deviation due to uncontrollable factors, such as variability in material properties and geometry dimensions. The finite-element method is applied in combination with the response-surface methodology to search for the robust design of write head. The influence of the geometrical parameters of write heads on the fringing field and its deviation is investigated. Comparison among normal design, optimal design, and robust solution is also carried out in the work.
