An effective method is proposed to compensate for the coupled array patterns of the compact antenna arrays due to mutual coupling.By using the mutual impedances of the antenna elements and the principle of pattern multiplication, it is possible to design compensation networks remove the distortion in the coupled array patterns.Equations to realize the compensation networks are derived.Numerical examples on the dipole and monopole arrays are discussed to demonstrate the validity and accuracy of the compensation method.
